A bill entitled “The Workplace Religious Freedom Act of 2008 (S. 3628) was introduced in the Senate on September 26, 2008 by Sen. John Kerry (D-MA). The bill would amend Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to establish provisions to require employers to make a “reasonable accommodation” for an employee’s religious practice or observance, such as time off or dress.
