Workplace discrimination still exists, especially at the executive level, according to a recent survey by TheLadders.com, a New York-based executive job website.
Eighty-one percent of the executives surveyed by TheLadders.com said they have witnessed discrimination within their companies, and 54% reported that discrimination in the workplace is no less prevalent now than it was 10 years ago.
Race was the most commonly cited basis of discrimination among 42 percent of respondents, closely followed by discrimination on the basis of gender (38 percent) and age (31 percent). Only nine percent of respondents cited sexual orientation as a basis for workplace discrimination.
Much of the discrimination reported in the survey comes from the corner-office. Seventy-seven percent of the executives reported that workplace discrimination comes from the top-down. Most of those surveyed said, however, that they have not taken any actions against discrimination in the workplace.
